What is an Average Bedroom Size?

As a general rule, the average bedroom size in a house in the U.S. is 11 feet by 12 feet, which is 132 square feet. This is ideal for a queen size bed. The average size house is about 2500 square feet.

What are Average Bedroom Sizes?

When you are looking for a house or considering remodeling, it is essential to have an understanding of the various room sizes and types. When you know how many square feet average bedroom it can help you make decisions about the rooms in your house. 

The size of the bedroom depends on the size of the house. The larger the home usually means that the bedrooms will also be larger. If you have a condo, cottage, or apartment, the bedrooms will be smaller.

The building code requires that the minimum size of a bedroom be at least 70 square feet. In addition, there cannot be a dimension in the room that is less than seven feet. 

This is not a large bedroom, which is intended for only one person. If the bedroom must hold two people, there needs to be a minimum addition of 50 square feet. There is also a minimum ceiling height requirement. The requirement is that at least half the ceiling must be seven feet tall.

If you know have or want a king size bed, it is essential if you know just how big your bedroom needs to be to hold a king size bed. In addition, you most likely want your bedroom to hold more items, such as a dresser and nightstands, than just your king size bed. 

However, first, you must understand what type and size king bed you have. A standard king is 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. A California king bed is 72 inches wide by 84 inches long. The standard king is the most commonly purchased king size bed. It is basically two twin beds put together.  

The standard king is slightly longer and thicker than the California king. The California king is intended for taller people, making it ideal for those six feet or taller. 

The minimum size room that is needed for a king size bed is 12 feet by 9 feet 10 inches. In addition, you want to have at least 30 inches of space around the bed to allow you to move. Master bedrooms are often found with walk in closet options, extra floor space, and a master bathroom.

When thinking about your bed, you want to consider the bed frame. Many frames add size to the bed. In addition, they may have drawers or storage at either end of the bed, which adds more size to consider. 

When you think about your bedroom, the size is not the only thing you need to consider. In addition, you must consider the placement of the closets, windows, and vents. All of these features in the room dictate the placement of your furniture. 

What Size Bedroom for A Queen Bed?

The best size bedroom to fit a queen bed is 10 feet by 10 feet. This provides enough room to fit your queen bed in the room while having enough room to walk around the bed. In addition, a queen bed comfortably fits two adults. A standard queen bed size is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long, roughly 5 five by 7 feet. This gives each adult 30 inches of space.

The depth mattress of the bed makes a difference in the size of the mattress. They can range in depth from 7 inches to 14 inches. A pillow top mattress can have a depth of 22 inches. 

There are other types of queen beds. One is called an Olympic queen bed. This bed is 66 inches by 80 inches. This is six inches wider than a standard size bedroom queen mattress. This mattress gives each person an extra three inches of space. 

Another option is a California queen bed. A California Queen is 60 inches wide by 84 inches long. This is 4 inches longer than a standard queen. This mattress is great for taller individuals. A California queen is 60 inches wide and can fit into most standard size bedrooms.

There is also a split queen bed. This bed has the same dimensions as a standard queen. The difference is this mattress splits into two sections that are 30 inches by 80 inches. This type of bed allows each sleeper to select their individual firmness. 

An Olympic queen mattress is a nice balance between a standard queen and a standard king size bed. If you have a small bedroom and a queen bed, you want to consider a simple headboard. In addition, you want to minimize the size of the bed by using thin bedspreads and a minimal amount of furniture. 

What Size Bedroom for A Twin Bed?

The best size bedroom for a twin bed is either a 7 foot by 10 foot or 10 foot by 10 foot. The standard measurement for a twin bed is 39 inches by 74 inches. A twin bed is perfect for children and teen bedrooms. This size bed is also great for apartments and dorm rooms. 

These small beds fit into the room while leaving room for children’s toys. They also leave plenty of room for the people in the room to move around it comfortably. 

A twin size bed is commonly used for a bunk bed. These bunk beds may be found in guest bedrooms. Twin beds are great for adults that require a separate sleeping space. There are different twin bed options, as well. 

A short twin is often found in an RV or camper. This twin mattress is five inches shorter than a standard twin. They are typically 34 inches by 75 inches. The ideal room size for this bed is 7 feet by 10 feet. 

There is also a twin XL bed. This is great for those that are taller and need some extra legroom. This bed measure 39 inches by 80 inches. This bed adds six more inches to your mattress. The perfect room size for this bed is a 7 foot by 10 foot option. 

You may be able to fit two twin beds in one room, even a small room. It may take some maneuvering, and the room may not have anything else in it, but it could work for guests staying for a short period of time.
