Carpet Remnants: What You Need to Know Before Making the Choice

If you're looking for new carpet and looking to save money you want to take a look at carpet remnants before you decide on anything.

If you’re looking for carpet in your home but trying to save money you may want to look at carpet remnants to help. Buying carpet can be expensive, going from a couple dollars a square foot to $12 a square foot. Of course, the more specialized the carpet you want the more money you’re going to spend. When buying remnants, however, you can save a lot of money.

Why Buy Carpet Remnants?

Remnants are the pieces that are left over when someone purchases a piece of carpet. So if the roll holds 200 square feet and 140 square feet are purchased the piece left over is a remnant. Sometimes the remnants will be very small and sometimes they’ll be quite large. It depends on the store what you’re going to get as a remnant piece.

If you have a small space or room that you want to get carpet for, getting a carpet remnant might be the best possible option for you. The best part is that you can go to different stores and find different sizes and shapes of carpet. You can also check out different styles too. That’s because there are going to be all different kinds of options when it comes to finding and buying remnants. Anything the people in that store purchase is possibly a remnant for you.

The Cost of Carpet Remnants

So just how much is it going to cost to get remnants? Well, the price of a square foot of carpet can be anywhere from $1 – $12 a square foot but when you purchase remnants you’re getting castaways. These are pieces that the store doesn’t think are going to sell because they’re too small or odd shaped. When that happens they mark the price down because they figure anything they can get for the piece is better than nothing.

You may be able to save up to 50% or even more on the piece of carpet that you want. Of course, that’s going to depend on what’s actually available and how you’re going to find it. You need to look at the options and understand that sometimes you’re going to have to make some compromises. You may not find the exact color or the exact style of carpet that you wanted. You may also have to swap some other aspects of the carpet to get what’s available.

Don’t Jump To Fast

Just because you’re looking at scraps and remnants, however, doesn’t mean that you have to jump on the first piece that’s the right size. You should take some time to look around at the different options and see what’s available. The first store you go to might have something that’s the perfect size. But if it’s not exactly what you’re looking for don’t jump too quickly. Take a little time to look at other stores as well.

Just because one store has something that works for what you need doesn’t mean that others won’t have something. You’ll be able to look at plenty of choices and you may be able to find a few different options. If you don’t find exactly what you want or aren’t quite sure about what you find you can always wait a little longer. New remnants show up all the time because people come to buy carpet all the time. Once you find something you really like you can pick it up.

Of course, if you absolutely need to have your carpet as soon as possible then remnants might not be the best option. After all, those remnants might not be available right away since you need a specific size. You may have to wait weeks or even longer to find something that will even work let alone something that you really want. Make sure you think about that when you’re deciding how to get your carpet.

You’re Not Locked In

Make sure you remember that deciding on carpet remnants doesn’t mean you’re totally locked in. If you want to look at remnants it doesn’t mean that you absolutely have to purchase them later. You can decide that you want to buy something directly off the rack as well. That means you have more options than you would otherwise. Of course, that only really works if the room you’re carpeting is small. Not a lot of remnants are going to be large enough for bedrooms or other rooms.

No matter what you’re thinking for your carpeting choice, you’ll be able to look at remnants as at least another option. Before you know it, you’ll have the carpeting you want and need for any of the rooms in your home and everything is going to look just the way you want it to. Just take a little time and you’ll see how it works out for you and your home.
